Armenian and Azerbaijani Foreign Ministers Hold Bilateral Meeting
On October 2, a meeting between Jeyhun Bayramov and Ararat Mirzoyan, the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia, was held in Geneva.
The Press Service Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan stated that Minister Jeyhun Bayramov emphasized that it is important to focus efforts on regulating interstate relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia and the signing of a peace treaty in the post-conflict period. "In this regard, Minister [Bayramov] brought the elements of the agreement to the attention of the Armenian side in detail based on the five basic principles proposed by us. "During the meeting, taking into account the tension on the delimited border, Azerbaijan proposed holding the next meeting of the bilateral commission on delimitation in October, not in November, as previously agreed," the document stated. The Press Service Department informed that Minister Bayramov, by the tripartite declarations signed by the leaders of Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Russia and the agreements reached between the leaders, stressed the need to complete the withdrawal of the Armenian armed forces from the territory of Azerbaijan, transport, and communication-based on the preliminary agreements reached within the framework of the tripartite commission under the leadership of the Deputy Prime Ministers stressed the need to open the lines in a short period and make progress in the work on delimitation.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia reported that Minister Ararat Mirzoyan once again confirmed the position of the Armenian side regarding the withdrawal of Azerbaijani troops from the sovereign territory of Armenia and the immediate release of all Armenian prisoners of war. The application of international mechanisms to control the situation on the border was emphasized.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia emphasized: "The war crimes committed by the Azerbaijan Armed Forces should be assessed by international courts, and the criminals should be brought to justice. The parties exchanged views on the peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan; the provision of legal and security guarantees for the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh; and the establishment of a discussion mechanism between Stepanakert [Khankendi] and Baku. The mutual understanding of the unblocking of regional transport routes under the sovereignty and jurisdiction of the countries was positively evaluated, "the information of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia states."
