Nika Melia on His Recent Visit to EU & European Commission's 12 Conditions

| News, Georgia

On November 18, Nika Melia, the leader of the opposition United National Movement (UNM) party, said that Georgia's European allies had a distinct opinion on how well the country is doing in implementing the 12-point recommendations put forward by the European Commission (EC).

At the briefing, Melia discussed the outcomes of his engagements in European cities. In Lisbon, where a resolution on Georgia was voted on, he claimed to have seen officials of European Council President Charles Michel.

"The decision makes it quite obvious that the Georgian administration disobeys the recommendations of the EC 12 and obstructs Georgia's European perspective. Political persecution should end; Mikheil Saakashvili, the former president, should be liberated and sent overseas for medical care; and Nika Gvaramia, the general director of Mtavari Arkhi, should be granted unconditional parole. The resolution establishes the need for oligarch Bidzina Ivanishvili's [founder of Georgian Dream] sanctioning and declares that the state has been seized," he added.

Nika Melia reaffirmed that the UNM's top priorities continue to be Georgia's integration into the free world, the development of democracy, and media freedom.
