Tbilisi Mayor on Georgian Dream Donors and Direct Flights to Russia
"90% of businessmen in Georgia are donors to Georgian Dream"
On December 12, Kakha Kaladze, the Mayor of Tbilisi, said that 90% of businessmen in Georgia support the Georgian Dream since it has brought peace and stability to the country.
He also responded to the journalist's inquiry regarding his opinion on the purchase of the Sports University by Georgian Dream benefactor Noshrevan Namoradze. "The period when government officials blackmailed business sector leaders will not return to Georgia," said Kakha Kaladze.
"Because Georgian Dream was the political party that brought about peace and stability in the nation, 90% of businesspeople in Georgia give to the party. We recall the times, how they handled businesspeople, and how they felt about them. They directly robbed shops and harassed them in numerous ways. People were being extorted by them. Thankfully, this era is behind us, and Georgia will never again experience the blackmailing of business leaders by government officials," the Mayor of Tbilisi stated.
"If Russia decides on direct flights, I don't see anything wrong with it"
Kakha Kaladze stated that if Russia decides to have direct flights to Georgia, he does not see a problem with this.
"There are no direct flights from Russia to Georgia, although Russian citizens usually come here. In addition, many of our compatriots live in different cities in Russia. If there is a decision from their side to have direct, I do not see anything wrong with it. What is the problem with people who do not like what is happening in Russia and Ukraine coming to Georgia? Citizens of not only Russia but also Belarus. The most important thing is that up to a million of our citizens live in Russia," Kaladze added.
