Aliyev Highlights $2 Billion Investment and Defense Cooperation in Talks with Pakistan’s Military Chief
On October 28, President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan met with General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, Chairman of Pakistan’s Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee. President Aliyev reaffirmed mutual support between Azerbaijan and Pakistan on issues of territorial integrity and sovereignty, emphasizing both countries’ commitment to maintain this alliance.
Aliyev noted his country's $2 billion investment potential in Pakistan, identified during a recent visit, and highlighted the promising benefits of enhanced trade and collaboration. Regarding defense cooperation, he praised Azerbaijan’s recent acquisition of the JF-17C aircraft, now part of the Azerbaijani Air Force, calling it one of the world's best and underscoring its role in strengthening defense ties between the two nations. Aliyev expressed optimism about future collaboration in defense production, investment, and technology and looked forward to Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's attendance at the COP29 event and his upcoming visit to Azerbaijan.
General Mirza commended Azerbaijan's achievements under President Aliyev, notably in economic growth and military capabilities, which he described as a testament to Azerbaijan's strategic focus. He celebrated the strong cultural and strategic bonds between Pakistan and Azerbaijan, extending congratulations on the upcoming Victory Day—an event symbolically significant for both nations. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s steadfast support for Azerbaijan regarding Armenia, just as Azerbaijan supports Pakistan on the Kashmir issue.
