Aliyev meets with high officials from Turkmenistan, Turkey, Uzbekistan, and Pakistan
Meeting with Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Serdar Berdimuhamedov
On June 29, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev met with Chairman of the People's Council Chamber of the National Assembly of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in Ashgabat, the Press Office of the Azerbaijani President reported.
Noting that the Caspian Sea was a sea of good neighborliness and peace, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov expressed his confidence that the current meeting would give a good impetus to cooperation in the Caspian Sea in the common interest. Recalling that essential issues had been discussed at the Baku summit, the Chairman of the People's Council Chamber of the National Assembly of Turkmenistan stressed the importance of adopting the Convention on the Legal Status of the Caspian Sea. Berdimuhamedov emphasized the importance of building logistical and transit corridors at the joint initiative of the two countries, adding that economic relations would continue to develop.
Expressing his gratitude to the President of Azerbaijan for the admission of Turkmenistan to the Organization of Turkic States as an observer and the high assessment of its activities, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said that inter-parliamentary relations were developing successfully. His country had participated in the Baku Conference of the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).
Aliyev noted that during the years of Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov's leadership, Turkmenistan, along with strengthening its neutral status, had gained authority in the international arena by pursuing an independent foreign policy, developing rapidly and improving the capital city of Ashgabat every year.
Emphasizing his satisfaction revisiting the fraternal country, the head of state expressed his confidence that the new President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, would lead the country further along the path of development and progress.
President Ilham Aliyev stressed the mutual support between the two countries regarding bilateral relations. The President of Azerbaijan noted the high level of relations between the two countries in both bilateral and multilateral formats, noting that the main goal was to deepen cooperation, further expand mutual political activities and fully unlock the potential of cultural ties.
Emphasizing the increase in cargo traffic between Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan via the Caspian Sea, President Ilham Aliyev said it was in the interests of both countries and their neighbors. Today, the transport route through the Caspian Sea is of particular importance. Modern seaports have been built in both Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan, and significant investments have been made in railway infrastructure.
On the same day, Ilham Aliyev met with President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov in Ashgabat.
Saying that he was pleased to welcome the head of state to Ashgabat, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov thanked President Ilham Aliyev for accepting the invitation to attend the Summit. Recalling that the first Summit was held in Ashgabat in 2002, the President of Turkmenistan stressed that the event had laid the foundation for long-term cooperation. Touching upon the signing of the Convention on the Legal Status of the Caspian Sea in 2018, Serdar Berdimuhamedov said that work was underway on many agreements on cooperation in transport, shipping, peace, environmental security, fisheries, emergency warning, and prevention in the Caspian Sea. Noting that the Caspian Sea was a shared asset, the Turkmen leader thanked Aliyev for his contribution to the development of fruitful cooperation in the region.
Ilham Aliyev congratulated Serdar Berdimuhamedov on his election as President of Turkmenistan and wished him success in his work. President Ilham Aliyev also expressed his confidence that the sustainable development achieved in Turkmenistan would be continued under his leadership.
Touching upon the importance of the Summit, Azerbaijani President noted that Turkmenistan had initiated the Summit of the Caspian littoral states 20 years ago and laid the foundation for broad and multilateral cooperation in the Caspian Sea, emphasizing the importance of signing the Convention.
Hailing Turkmenistan's contribution to cooperation in the Caspian Sea and among Caspian littoral states, the President of Azerbaijan expressed his confidence that the Summit would be another step towards strengthening cooperation in the areas of security, ecology, and water resources.
Meeting with Speaker of Grand National Assembly of Turkey
On June 30, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan received the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Mustafa Şentop.
Mustafa Şentop praised interparliamentary ties between Azerbaijan and Turkey. Noting the significance of cooperation within the Organization of Turkic States, TURKPA, Mustafa Şentop recalled his recent visit to Azerbaijan to attend the 3rd General Conference of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Economic Cooperation Organization.
During the conversation, they stressed the importance of Turkey’s participation in the Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement in Baku in 2019 at the special invitation of Azerbaijan.
The head of state underlined that Azerbaijan attaches great importance to the further development of the Non-Aligned Movement and its institutionalization and put forward several initiatives in this direction.
Meeting with Chairman of Senate of Pakistan
On the same day, Ilham Aliyev received Chairman of the Senate of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani.
During the meeting, Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani extended the greetings of the President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Arif Alvi, to the President of Azerbaijan. Aliyev thanked for the greetings of Arif Alvi and asked Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani to convey his greetings to the Pakistani President.
The head of state praised Pakistan's brotherly support for Azerbaijan at all times, especially during the occupation of lands, the second Karabakh war, and the post-war period. President Ilham Aliyev noted that at that time, the people of Azerbaijan were very impressed that Pakistan had not established any diplomatic relations with Armenia due to Armenian occupation.
Stating that his country always supported the just and fair position of Azerbaijan in the former Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict, Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani emphasized that the people of Pakistan celebrated Azerbaijan's Victory with great joy.
During the conversation, the sides also hailed the successful cooperation between the two countries within the international organizations. They also underlined the importance of expanding cooperation in various areas, particularly in the economic and trade fields, and restoring direct air connections between the two countries.
Meeting with the chairwoman of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan
On June 30, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan received Tanzila Norbaeva, the Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan.
President Ilham Aliyev emphasized that he was delighted with the visit. He expressed his gratitude for the high level of hospitality shown and noted that the visit was very meaningful.
Tanzila Norbaeva stressed that President Ilham Aliyev's state visit to Uzbekistan had left a deep impression on President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the people of Uzbekistan. As a result of the visit, instructions were given to relevant institutions by the leadership of Uzbekistan.
Noting that Azerbaijan's territorial integrity had been restored, the chairperson of the Senate of Uzbekistan emphasized that the delegation would travel to Shusha as part of the visit to the country. The Senate chairperson noted that Azerbaijan had become a global venue for political, economic, and humanitarian events.
Tanzila Norbaeva said that the Baku Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network had been held successfully and expressed her gratitude for the invitation. She emphasized that President Ilham Aliyev was the author of the initiative to hold this event in Azerbaijan, praising Azerbaijan’s effective chairmanship in the Movement.
During the conversation, the sides stressed the importance of inter-parliamentary relations between the two countries. They emphasized that the two countries' parliaments will support the implementation of the agreements reached by the heads of state.
