Anti-Corruption Committee Vows More Election-Crime Probes and Arrests

Armenia’s Anti-Corruption Committee will keep investigating alleged electoral crimes tied to the June 7 parliamentary elections, with new searches, detentions, and prosecutions expected in the coming weeks, Committee Chairman Artur Nahapetyan said.

Speaking at a parliamentary hearing on the implementation of the 2025 state budget, Nahapetyan conceded that authorities had not caught every electoral violation but called the agency’s work effective. “Of course, I cannot say that we have achieved a 100% detection rate in electoral crimes, but at the same time I can say that the Anti-Corruption Committee has worked effectively,” he stated.

He said the committee had recorded more than 100 detections nationwide and handled around 115 criminal proceedings despite heavy staffing shortages, with nearly 60 positions still vacant.

He said investigators had already identified further suspected electoral offenses that have not yet reached the public phase of investigation. “In the near future we will proceed and carry out searches, detentions, and prosecutions,” he said.

Nahapetyan pointed to earlier post-election investigations, including the Vagharshapat community elections, where authorities later exposed alleged vote-buying schemes involving around 50 defendants.

The committee is gathering and verifying information from across Armenia and expects further revelations. “I assure you that we will have new revelations in this regard,” Nahapetyan said, adding that authorities would keep examining credible allegations of electoral crimes even years after a vote.
