| News, Security, Armenia

Armen Grigoryan, the Armenian Security Council Secretary, said that participation in US-led military exercises could help reform the Armenian army.

In his opinion, the experience showed the ineffective practice [Second Karabakh War] that the Armenian side had. "We need to find new mechanisms, new and effective management methods. In different places of the world, we can see numerous effective methods that we have been far from for a long time," the Secretary of the Security Council said. He acknowledged that participation in such exercises has a broader political context; there are multi-layered issues. At the same time, he assured that we are not talking about changing the foreign policy vector. "This is a motive for us to acquire knowledge and skills," Grigoryan noted.

Notably, Defense Ministry Spokesman Aram Torosyan recently said that Armenia plans to participate in two military exercises conducted by the US Army Europe Command this year: KFOR and Saber Junction. Also, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Russia had asked Armenia for official clarifications on participation in US exercises in Europe.
