Armenia concerned about Head of Estonian Parliament visit to Shusha

The Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia, Alan Simonyan, expressed his concern at the meeting with the Ambassador of Estonia in Yerevan, Rina Kaljurand, regarding the recent visit of the Head of the Estonian Parliament, Jüri Ratas, to Shusha, Press Service of the Parliament of Armenia reported on July 8.

As Simonyan noted, the Armenian side monitors the activities of foreign partners. It attaches great importance to any application on issues sensitive to it. According to the politician, the visit of Ratas to Shusha on May 24 and the statements made by him in this city, "from where the Armenian population was expelled, not only do not reflect the spirit of friendly relations between Armenia and Estonia but also contradict Tallinn's official support for the peaceful settlement of the Karabakh conflict within the framework of co-chairmanship of the Minsk Group of the OSCE."

The speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia further informed the ambassador about his letter to the chairman of the Estonian parliament, in which he explained the essence of the Karabakh conflict and the consequences of the Second Karabakh War. At the same time, Simonyan expressed the hope that his Estonian colleague will soon visit Armenia and familiarize himself with the situation on the spot, as well as meet with [separatist] representatives of [the] Nagorno-Karabakh.

In his video address from Shusha, the speaker of the Estonian parliament previously called Shusha an Azerbaijani city reconstructed after 30 years of occupation.
