Armenia, India Build on Growing Bilateral Partnership

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met in Bishkek on August 31 on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit, reviewing bilateral relations and prospects for broader cooperation.

The two leaders expressed satisfaction with the development of Armenia-India ties and emphasized the need for further joint steps to deepen the partnership. They also reaffirmed the longstanding friendly relations between the two countries and their interest in developing new areas of cooperation.

The talks covered economic relations, technology, healthcare and pharmaceuticals, education, infrastructure, investment and tourism. The two sides also highlighted the importance of high-level mutual visits in supporting new initiatives and strengthening contacts between government institutions and businesses.

Pashinyan renewed his invitation for Modi to visit Armenia and expressed readiness to travel to India at a convenient time, with both sides viewing continued high-level engagement as useful for expanding bilateral cooperation.

Regional issues were discussed as well, including the implementation of the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP). The mention of TRIPP adds a regional connectivity dimension to the Armenia-India agenda, given India’s broader interest in transport and trade routes linking South Asia with the Caucasus and beyond.

The meeting took place alongside Pashinyan’s participation in the SCO Plus format in Bishkek, where he presented Armenia’s approach as a pillar of a broader policy of maintaining diversified partnerships. In his remarks at the summit, Pashinyan noted Armenia’s relations with neighboring countries and its support for a multipolar international order.

The two leaders agreed to continue working on practical areas of cooperation, with economic ties, technology, investment and regional connectivity remaining key parts of the bilateral agenda.
