Armenian Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan met with Iran’s Ambassador to Armenia Khalil Shirgholami on August 25 to discuss expanding bilateral economic cooperation, with a focus on trade, investment, energy, logistics and stronger business ties.

According to the Armenian Economy Ministry, Papoyan noted that the active political dialogue between Yerevan and Tehran should be translated into more tangible economic results. He highlighted the need to increase the presence of Armenian products in the Iranian market and make greater use of the opportunities created by the EAEU-Iran free trade agreement.

The sides further discussed opportunities for joint production and investment, as well as cooperation in energy and logistics. Particular attention was given to the possibility of establishing long-term supplies of diesel fuel and liquefied gas to Armenia.

Papoyan proposed expanding cooperation across several areas, including Armenian exports, joint industrial projects, investment, energy, and transport logistics. The minister also highlighted the importance of continuing to improve border procedures to facilitate trade and business activity between the two countries.

Yerevan’s 2026-2031 government programme sets out Iran as an important regional partner, with priorities including expanding trade, strengthening energy cooperation, developing border infrastructure and improving transport links through Iran, including the North-South and Persian Gulf–Black Sea corridors.
