Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov agreed to continue direct dialogue at a meeting in New York on September 24 on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.

The ministers the importance of peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan and discussed progress since the August 2025 Washington summit. Economic and transport links between the two countries were among the main issues on the agenda. The sides considered ways to promote a positive agenda through multilateral platforms and identified trade and transit as practical areas where the benefits of the peace process could be demonstrated.

The meeting came as economic contacts between the two countries have begun to expand. Armenia confirmed on September 24 that it had exported aluminium foil to Azerbaijan, marking the first reported Armenian export to the country since the two sides intensified their peace negotiations. Azerbaijan has supplied Armenia with petroleum products since December 2025.

The foreign ministers’ meeting followed a US-organised event in New York on September 23 focused on the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity, or TRIPP, and the wider Trans-Caspian trade route. Mirzoyan and Bayramov took part alongside US officials and representatives of Georgia, Central Asian countries and the private sector.
