
Armenian Lieutenant Disappeared

On August 23, the Armenian Defense Ministry announced that an Armenian lieutenant had disappeared on the border with Azerbaijan in the Syunik province. According to the statement, the officer left his station without permission from his commanders. Armenian authorities believe that he got lost in poor visibility conditions and is now on Azerbaijani territory. Together with Russia, Armenia is trying to clarify the fate of the missing officer in dialogue with Azerbaijan.
Meanwhile, some details of the August 19 triple killing at an Armenian border post near the border with Azerbaijan have been released. According to initial investigative findings, it was an internal conflict among the soldiers. Two Armenian military members have already been arrested. One of them is accused of inciting attempted murder and sexual abuse of other soldiers.
