Armenian PM Challenges Credibility of Former Presidents’ Peace Narratives

| News, Politics, Armenia

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan cast doubt on the so-called “brilliant solutions” to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict that Armenia’s former presidents – Levon Ter-Petrosyan, Robert Kocharyan, and Serzh Sargsyan – have claimed were available during their administrations.

In a Facebook post, Pashinyan questioned whether those solutions were ever real or merely political illusions designed to mislead the public. “Why, then, did all three former leaders of Armenia fail to implement the brilliant solutions to the Karabakh issue that they themselves described?” he asked.

Pashinyan said there are only two possible explanations: “The first is that they displayed criminal inaction – perhaps even serving the interests of foreign countries rather than Armenia’s – thereby depriving us of a brilliant solution to the Karabakh issue. The second possibility is that the so-called brilliant solutions they described were nothing more than political deception based on thought exercises, and their implementation was never actually possible.”

“There is simply no other explanation,” the Prime Minister concluded, challenging the credibility of his predecessors’ repeated claims that they once had viable diplomatic options to resolve the conflict.
