Armenian-Saudi Relations Enter New Phase with High-Level Visit

On April 17, the visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia commenced, marking the first high-level visit since the establishment of diplomatic relations in November 2023.

At the outset of the visit, Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan met with Saudi Arabia's Minister of Education, Yousef bin Abdullah Al-Benyan. Both ministers lauded the high-level political dialogue between their countries, expressing optimism that the visit would invigorate cooperation across various key sectors. They discussed enhancing collaboration in education, science, and culture, emphasizing the importance of modernizing education through technological innovation. Mirzoyan highlighted Armenia's priorities, including initiatives by the TUMO Center for Creative Technologies, and proposed bolstering cooperation through exchanges, specialist training, and scholarships.

Later, Minister Mirzoyan met with Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al-Saud, the Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia. They hailed the positive momentum in political dialogue, reaffirming their commitment to expanding cooperation across multiple domains, including trade, economy, tourism, and information technologies. They emphasized the significance of direct flights in enhancing people-to-people contacts and business ties and discussed cooperation within international organizations and platforms, including the possibility of jointly hosting the "World Expo 2030". Minister Mirzoyan underscored Armenia's deepening partnerships with Arab countries and briefed his counterpart on regional developments and Armenia's stance on key issues, including ongoing peace negotiations.

Additionally, Minister Mirzoyan met with Saudi Arabia's Minister of Economy and Planning, Faisal bin Fadhill bin Muhsin Alibrahim. They explored opportunities to strengthen economic ties, focusing on trade, investment, tourism, and infrastructure development. Both sides agreed to develop a comprehensive bilateral agenda and to establish a roadmap for effective cooperation. Mirzoyan presented the "Crossroads of Peace" initiative, highlighting its potential to enhance connectivity and economic development in the region.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Vahan Kostanyan also discussed cooperation in information technologies with Saudi Arabia's Deputy Minister of Information Technologies, Ahmad Al-Sayan, during Minister Mirzoyan's visit. They discussed mutual priorities and potential areas of collaboration. Kostanyan highlighted Armenia's achievements in the IT sector and proposed exchanges and partnerships between leading companies. Both sides expressed interest in sharing experiences and advancing cooperation in digital governance and artificial intelligence.
