Representatives of Azerbaijan and Armenia discussed prospects for cross-border electricity trade and the possible interconnection of their energy systems during a working meeting in Lachin on August 25, adding energy cooperation to the expanding areas of practical engagement between the two countries.

The meeting brought together representatives of Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Energy and Azerenerji, and Armenia’s Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure and the Electric Power System Operator. The sides examined options for electricity imports and exports and possible ways to connect their energy infrastructure along the state border.

The talks form part of a wider push to develop practical cooperation between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has identified implementation of the TRIPP project as a key government priority, framing it as an important practical outcome of the August 8, 2025 Washington summit and a component of Armenia’s “Crossroads of Peace” initiative.

The August 25 electricity meeting adds another layer to these broader connectivity efforts. The sides explored potential electricity exchanges and options for linking their national energy systems along the border, although no agreement on electricity imports or exports was announced.
