Azerbaijan stops convoy of Russian peacekeepers in the Karabakh

On July 20, Azerbaijani soldiers stopped a car convoy of Russian peacekeepers carrying weapons without permission. One 82A armoured vehicle belonging to Russian peacekeepers and 3 "Ural" cars were stopped for inspection at the checkpoint of the Azerbaijan Army.
During the inspection of the cars, 5 submachine guns were found in the cargo area of one of the cars. Due to gross violation of the rules and illegal transport of ammunition, the motorcade was not released from the checkpoint.
Caucasus Watch previously reported that Azerbaijani President, Ilham Aliyev, said: “On a visit to Azerbaijan a few months ago, they promised our Defence Ministry that Armenian armed forces would withdraw from Karabakh by June. It is the middle of July, but this issue has not been resolved. Armenia does not fulfil these obligations in violation of the November 10 Declaration. Russian peacekeepers – the Russian side also signed the November 10 Declaration – do not force them to do so, so to speak,” the head of Azerbaijan stated.”
