Azerbaijan and the United Arab Emirates expanded their strategic partnership through a series of new agreements covering renewable energy, investment, mining, artificial intelligence and gas infrastructure during a meeting in Baku on September 14.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev received UAE National Security Adviser and Deputy Ruler of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Tahnoun bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who conveyed greetings from UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The two sides welcomed the development of bilateral strategic ties and the expansion of cooperation across multiple sectors. The two sides highlighted the role of high-level contacts and reciprocal visits in strengthening relations between Baku and Abu Dhabi.

A signing ceremony held in the presence of Aliyev and Sheikh Tahnoun resulted in six agreements and related documents covering several areas of cooperation.

One agreement between Masdar and Azerbaijan Green Energy Company concerns the development of renewable energy projects in Azerbaijan. Another strategic cooperation agreement was signed between Azerbaijan Investment Holding and L'IMAD Holding Company.

Cooperation in the mining sector was addressed through an agreement between AzerGold and Terra Mining Ltd, covering the joint assessment and exploration of mineral resources and mining fields in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

The two countries also expanded cooperation in advanced technology. Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Economy and G42 Holding signed a memorandum covering the development of data centers, high-performance computing and artificial intelligence infrastructure in Azerbaijan.

Another document concerns the shareholders’ structure of the Southern Gas Corridor Closed Joint Stock Company, involving Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Economy and XRG SGC Limited. The package also included confirmation of financial close for the 315 MW Neftchala solar photovoltaic project, signed by Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Energy, SOCAR and Masdar.

The agreements broaden the scope of Azerbaijan-UAE cooperation beyond traditional investment and energy ties, with renewable power, digital infrastructure, mining, and artificial intelligence now forming part of the bilateral economic agenda.
