The 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change - COP29 will be held in Azerbaijan next year. The decision was made at the plenary session of COP28 held in Dubai on December 11.
According to the information of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan, the President of COP28, Sultan Ahmad Al-Jabir, the Minister of Industry and Advanced Technologies of the United Arab Emirates, announced that the next COP conference will be held in Azerbaijan.
Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan Mukhtar Babayev said that holding the event in his country will be an important stage for the world community to come together to solve the current problems. "We recognize the importance of a coordinated response to climate change, and through joint initiatives, we aim to strengthen our impact and accelerate progress towards a sustainable future," he said.

Along with Azerbaijan, Armenia and Bulgaria have also submitted their candidacies. In a joint statement issued as a result of direct negotiations between the Administration of the President of Azerbaijan and the Office of the Prime Minister of Armenia on December 7, it was stated that Armenia withdrew its candidacy in favor of Azerbaijan. After that, Bulgaria also withdrew its candidacy.
