Azerbaijani Ambassador to UK Attributes Historic Armenia-Azerbaijan Agreement to Trump

| News, Politics, Azerbaijan

On August 15, Elin Suleymanov, the Ambassador of Azerbaijan to the United Kingdom, stated that the historic agreement signed in Washington between the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia could only have been achieved under the administration of Donald Trump. Suleymanov emphasized that Trump approached the negotiations "as a peacemaker and deal maker, in essence, and that's very different from what the others wanted".

He argued that previous US presidents who attempted to mediate the South Caucasus conflict never treated its resolution as a genuine priority, while the Trump administration focused on achieving tangible outcomes. The ambassador highlighted that the recent agreements followed the same framework that Trump and his team had supported since his first term, reflecting consistency and a clear strategic vision. He further noted that Trump’s peacemaking efforts were driven by the broader national interest rather than by partisan or factional goals.

"The United States benefits from peace—not a particular administration, not particular special interest groups that dominated the previous discussions, but the United States as a nation, as a major player, actually benefits from peace," Suleymanov stated. He also underscored that the interests of the US and Azerbaijan were aligned on the issues of peace and security in the region.
