Azerbaijani Citizens Travel Abroad in Record Numbers, Russia and Georgia Among Top Destinations

According to the information of the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan, the total number of Azerbaijani citizens going to foreign countries increased by 20.2 percent to 358,600 people compared to January-March 2022. The number of Azerbaijani citizens going to Russia increased by 46.6 percent, the number of those going to Georgia by 44.6 percent, the number of those going to Turkey by 6.4 percent, and the number of those going to Iran decreased by 25.4 percent. 39.4 percent of the country's citizens visited Turkey, 22.9 percent to Russia, 9.6 percent to Georgia, 8.0 percent to Iran, and 20.1 percent to other countries. 68.9 percent of those left were men, and 31.1 percent were women.

The committee reports that 67.4 percent of Azerbaijani citizens who visited foreign countries in January-March 2023 used air, 30.0 percent used rail and automobile, and 2.6 percent used sea transportation. According to the committee's information, 368.9 thousand foreigners and stateless persons from 157 countries arrived in Azerbaijan in January-March 2023, or 49.8 percent more than in the corresponding period of the previous year. "32.3 percent of those who came to Azerbaijan came from Russia, 21.5 percent from Turkey, 9.1 percent from Iran, 5.6 percent from Georgia, 4.2 percent from India, 2.7 percent from Pakistan, 2.6 percent from the United Arab Emirates, 1.9 percent from percent were citizens of Kazakhstan, 1.7 percent each from Saudi Arabia and Uzbekistan, 1.6 percent each from Ukraine and Belarus, 1.4 percent from Kuwait, 1.3 percent from Turkmenistan, and 10.8 percent from other countries. 9 percent are men, 23.1 percent are women," the information stated.

The Statistics Committee reported that compared to January-March 2022, the number of arrivals from the CIS countries increased by 1.8 times to 151.4 thousand people, the number of arrivals from the European Union member states increased by 40.1 percent to 15.2 thousand people, the number of arrivals from the Gulf countries increased by 1.8 times the number increased by 1.5 percent to 59.1 thousand people.
