Azerbaijani MPs Ramp Up Pressure on Iran

| News, Politics, Azerbaijan

"We must join the sanctions against Iran, create an anti-Iranian coalition"

during his speech at the plenary session, Fazail Aghamali, a member of the Azerbaijani Parliament, said, "Iran will not stand still. We must convey Iran's threats against Azerbaijan to all international organizations."

"The Azerbaijani diaspora against Iran should be organized in Europe, the United States, and other countries. We should participate in the sanctions against Iran and create an anti-Iranian coalition," Aghamali stressed.

"The rest of the employees of the Iranian embassy should also be rejected and leave"

MP Musa Guliyev stated, "The Iranian parliament's acceptance of a protest statement against the opening of an embassy in Israel by Azerbaijan does not fit into any political and diplomatic ethics. Yesterday, four employees of the Iranian embassy were declared persona non grata for espionage. I believe the rest of the employees should also be dismissed, and the embassy should be closed. The detection and arrest of terrorists and provocateurs involved in cooperation with Iran's special services in a short period indicate the high professionalism of Azerbaijan's law enforcement agencies. I express my gratitude to the management and employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the Public Prosecutor's Office for their promptness and professionalism."

The MP said that “the continuous provocative and hostile actions of the Persian Mullah regime in Iran” against Azerbaijan are destroying the neighborly relations: "The terrorist act committed against our deputy colleague Fazil Mustafa, the treacherous attack on our embassy in Tehran a little while ago, the incessant insults of Iranian artists against our country. Iran's destructive position in resolving the conflict with Armenia, especially regarding the Zangezur Corridor, shows that the chauvinist Persian Mullah regime at the head of this country has no intention of giving up its treacherous and dirty deeds. This position of the Iranian regime forces us to reconsider our relations between the states."

"I wonder if Iranian politicians are aware that they do not have friendly relations with any Muslim countries around them. The only aggressor and terrorist Armenia is a friend of Iran. For 30 years, Iran was indifferent to the destruction of Muslim graves in Karabakh, did not protest against the destruction of mosques or those who keep pigs in the house of God," the MP stressed.

"Iran wants to start a war against Azerbaijan"

Elman Nasirov, an MP of the Azerbaijani Parliament, stressed: "Especially recently, Iran's policy against Azerbaijan is completely contrary to Islamism. Iran's media spewing lies against Azerbaijan day and night, committing a terrorist act against the Azerbaijani Embassy, traces of the terrorist act against an Azerbaijani deputy going to Iran, etc. All this shows that Iran has started an informational and ideological war against Azerbaijan in the true sense of the word. He intends to turn it into a military war, and in fact, he is taking new steps in this direction every day. In the latest statement adopted by 210 deputies of the Iranian parliament against Azerbaijan, once again against the background of all these realities, the state of Azerbaijan is taking adequate steps. We have always been committed to the friendly neighborhood policy. But unfortunately, the opposite party did the opposite."

Nasirov noted that four employees of the Iranian embassy were declared "persona non grata" by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan. They were given 48 hours to leave the country: "As you can see, Azerbaijan-Iran relations are becoming tenser every day. This tension is approaching its peak daily, and Iran is responsible for all these processes. The religious and political regime in Iran is responsible for what is happening. All the responsibility for all the happenings lies in the regime of the mullahs in Iran. I would say that if disasters happen, it can lead to tragic consequences for Iran."
