Azerbaijani Party Holds Protest Against Russian Peacekeepers in Separatist Nagorno-Karabakh
On October 7, the Azerbaijan Welfare Party (ADR) protested in front of the Russian Embassy with slogans such as "Occupying Russian army, get out of Karabakh!" They tried to hold a rally, but police officers prevented the protesters from approaching the embassy. Therefore, the action was held in the park. The protest participants also chanted slogans such as "Putin, get out!" and "Army of Russian invaders, leave Karabakh."
ADR Party Chairman Huseyn Malik blamed Russia for creating and continuing the conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia, saying that the Russian army must leave Azerbaijan. "An army that commits massacres in Ukraine cannot be a peacekeeper in Azerbaijan," he said.
Alish Mehdiyev, the Chairman of the Supreme Assembly and Health Commission of the ADR Party, believes that during the 44-day war between Azerbaijan and Armenia, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan was deceived by Vladimir Putin, the President of the Russian Federation. "For a while, we were all united around Ilham Aliyev during the 44-day war. However, on the night of signing the declaration, Ilham Aliyev said, 'Maybe we should draw a goal now?' Ilham Aliyev believed in Putin, and that something would be done here. He also deceived Aliyev because that person is not a person to be trusted," said Mehdiyev.
In the statement of the action, ADR calls for the immediate withdrawal of the occupying Russian troops from Nagorno-Karabakh, the complete and definitive return of the territories of Nagorno-Karabakh to the jurisdiction of Azerbaijan, and at the same time, the strengthening of its military-political relations with friendly countries to protect the state security and sovereignty of the country reliably. "It is necessary to strengthen the military-strategic alliance with the brotherly Republic of Turkey," stated the statement.
"Therefore, the Azerbaijan Democracy and Prosperity Party demands the immediate withdrawal of the occupying Russian troops from Karabakh on behalf of the millions of Azerbaijani citizens who are in solidarity with us on this issue. Leave Azerbaijan, go home!" the Party said.
