Azerbaijan's FM Focuses on Bilateral Energy, Transport Projects, and Security at ECO Meeting in Iran
On December 3, Jeyhun Bayramov, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, traveled to Mashhad, Islamic Republic of Iran, to attend the 28th meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO). During the visit, Minister Bayramov was scheduled to deliver a speech at the Council meeting and engage in bilateral discussions.
As part of his participation, Jeyhun Bayramov met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran, Seyid Abbas Araghchi, to discuss various aspects of Azerbaijani-Iranian cooperation. The discussions focused on joint projects in economy, trade, energy security, transport, and communications, along with regional and international security matters.
Minister Bayramov congratulated Iran on its successful chairmanship of the ECO and the high-level organization of the meeting. He highlighted the significance of fostering high-level dialogue to strengthen cooperation based on historical ties, friendship, and cultural connections.
To enhance bilateral relations, the ministers emphasized the importance of implementing key agreements, particularly in energy and transport corridors. Projects such as regional transport and infrastructure initiatives connecting the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and the East Zangezur economic region through Iranian territory were underscored as critical to this cooperation.
Additionally, the meeting highlighted the need to bolster collaboration within multilateral frameworks, including the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Non-Aligned Movement, and the Economic Cooperation Organization. The two ministers also exchanged views on other topics of mutual interest.
