Bakhtadze sums up the work done in developing Georgia’s road system

On 13 August, the Georgian Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze reaffirmed the commitment of his cabinet in developing the country's infrastructure, reported agenda.ge.
He highlighted the importance for Georgia to have a denser road system by identifying three main reasons for the government to pursue this goal, namely: 1) to use the transit and tourist potential of Georgia; 2) to reduce travel time between destinations in the country and make the transportation more comfortable and safer; and 3) using a developed infrastructure as a means to reduce poverty in the country.
Bakhtadze also stressed the biggest road construction projects which will be launched this year. “We are implementing projects of historic significance and I will only single out two of them today. One is a highway on the Rikoti Pass, the construction of which has already been started … and the second is the Kobi-Gudauri highway. An agreement will be signed in the coming days and construction will be launched by the end of this year,” he said.
A special focus was also given to the development of secondary roads in the country, as they connect isolated Georgian villages and settlements to the main roads. He also promised that more attention would be paid to firm up the infrastructure on the coastal regions of the country by attracting more investments for this cause.
Previously, on 24 July the Georgian government increased the funding for the country's infrastructure projects by 20% (Caucasus Watch reported).
