Belarus Urges Pashinyan to Focus on Armenia's Internal Issues Amid Political Unrest

Commenting on recent remarks made by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Belarusian Ambassador to Russia Dmitry Krutoy said on June 13 that Pashinyan needs to focus on Armenia's internal situation first.
"Pashinyan has to sort things out: There are protests there, too," Krutoy said.
In addition, Alexander Shpakovsky, Minister Counselor at the Belarusian Embassy in Russia, reiterated that Minsk does not interfere in Armenia's internal political processes or its foreign policy. "Based on the principle of reciprocity, we expect similar approaches from our partners and allies, that's why we watched with some confusion the contacts of representatives of the Armenian leadership with the leaders of Belarusian political extremists," Shpakovsky said. He emphasized that the choice of partners and allies is a sovereign matter for Minsk and an "either/or" approach is unacceptable. "We have and will continue to cooperate with brotherly Azerbaijan in all spheres, including military and technical," he added. Shpakovsky noted that Belarus remains calm about Pashinyan's impulsive statements and continues to respect the brotherly Armenian people, with whom Belarus shares centuries-old historical ties.
Earlier, Nikol Pashinyan said that neither he nor Armenian officials will travel to Belarus as long as Alexander Lukashenko remains president. The Prime Minister blamed the defeat in the military conflict with Azerbaijan on those who formed a "bubble alliance", whose members, he claimed, were not fulfilling their contractual obligations and were planning a war with Armenia alongside Baku. Subsequently, it was announced that the Armenian ambassador to Belarus, Razmik Khumaryan, had been summoned to Yerevan for consultations.
