BP to Build New Platform at Shah Deniz, Advance Solar Power Plans in Azerbaijan

On January 24, Tamam Bayatly, the head of BP Azerbaijan's Press Service, announced plans to build a new compressor platform at the Shah Deniz field to capture low-pressure gas and deliver it to the Sangachal terminal. Public hearings on the environmental impact assessment are scheduled for mid-February.
Bayatly stated that the platform would operate without human presence, require billion-dollar investments, and increase gas production efficiency by collecting low-pressure gas from the Alpha and Bravo platforms. Gas production and export operations from the Shah Deniz Alpha platform have returned to pre-technical problem levels.
Bakhtiyar Aslanbayli, BP's Vice President for the Caspian region, announced the construction of the Shafag Solar Power Plant (SPP) in the Jabrayil district this year, following the signing of an investment agreement at COP29 in November 2024. The final investment decision is expected in 2025 after completing the technical and economic feasibility study and certification process.
