Building materials from Iran to Donbas will go through port of Makhachkala
“Sea trade port of Makhachkala intends to significantly increase the transhipment of cement and other building materials from Iran, part of which will be directed to the restoration of the [separatist] DPR and LPR,” said General Director of Port Rustam Karimov.
According to him, at the moment there is a greater interest in construction materials coming from Iran. "In the conditions of a strong rouble, it is beneficial to importers, so turnover will increase. Now we are planning to build a corridor so that Iranian cement will be sent from us to the Rostov region and from there to the Donbas for the restoration of the DPR and LPR. And taking into account that there will be a need not only for cement, but we also want to arrange the supply of quality building mixes and other construction materials there," Karimov noted.
Last year, the port handled 108 thousand tons of cement, and for the first half of the current year — 42 thousand. tons, while most of this production remained directly in Dagestan. Due to the exit to other regions, the shipment is planned to increase to 600 thousand tons per year.
Karimov also said that the port intends to organize the delivery of bulk cargo. “For this, you will have to attract or create your own lines that will build the flow of goods and cargo,” he added. "We are talking about construction materials not only from Iran, but also from India, the entire route that can go to us through Iran," General Director of Port flagged.
