Cyprus Pledges Support for Displaced Armenians and Trilateral Partnership

During her official visit to Yerevan, President of the House of Representatives of Cyprus, Annita Demetriou, reaffirmed Cyprus’ strong support for Armenia, describing their relationship as grounded in shared values and historical bonds.
Speaking at a joint press conference with Armenian Speaker of Parliament Alen Simonyan, Demetriou emphasized the emotional significance of her visit and Cyprus’ unwavering solidarity with Armenia.
“Our meeting today is another testament to the excellent relationship between our countries. Armenia is in our hearts,” she said. During her visit to Aragatsotn Province, she met displaced persons from Nagorno-Karabakh and described the encounter as “impressive and moving.”
“We saw people working to rebuild their lives. We are ready to support that journey,” she added.
She highlighted the shared struggle for justice that unites Cyprus and Armenia and called for international fairness and consistency, warning against double standards. “Europe and international bodies must not be guided by double standards. We must not forget what happened in Armenia. We must have a clear reaction based on justice,” she stressed.
Demetriou praised Armenia–Cyprus–Greece trilateral cooperation and called for further strategic engagement.
“I am sure that Cyprus will have its contribution on the path of establishing peace, as it did in the past, as it has always supported that issue,” Simonyan said.
He also briefed Demetriou on the situation regarding Armenian prisoners of war unlawfully held in Azerbaijan, as well as the fate of missing persons. Simonyan concluded by acknowledging the alignment of interests and mutual understanding between the two countries: “We have full understanding, full match of interests from both sides, for which I am grateful to my esteemed colleague.”
