Deadly shootings between Armenia and Azerbaijan

On August 16, several shootings occurred on the international border between Armenia and Azerbaijan. According to Armenian sources, Azerbaijani troops attempted to advance into the Syunik province. As a result of the measures taken by Armenia, at least one Azerbaijani soldier was killed, according to the sources. The Azerbaijani Defense Ministry denied this.
A few hours later, Armenia reported the death of an Armenian soldier as a result of fire by Azerbaijani snipers. The incident reportedly occurred on the border between Armenia and the Azerbaijani Autonomous Republic of Nakhichevan. Shortly before that, Azerbaijan's Defense Ministry also reported that an exchange of fire with Armenia occurred after an "enemy provocation" in Nakhichevan.
In the evening, the Armenian Defense Ministry said that another Armenian soldier had been killed in the Vardenis border area as a result of enemy fire.
