French National Assembly President Meets Pashinyan and Mirzoyan in Yerevan

Meeting with Armenian Prime Minister

On January 13, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan received the delegation led by the President of French National Assembly Yaël Braun-Pivet, the Press Office of the Armenian Prime Minister reported.

"At the meeting, reference was made to the steps taken to overcome the humanitarian crisis created in Nagorno-Karabakh as a result of Azerbaijan's illegal blocking of the Lachin Corridor. The sides emphasized the fact of another violation of the November 9, 2020 declaration by Azerbaijan, attaching importance to the international community's attention and adequate response to it," the report added.

"Referring to the Armenian-French relations, Nikol Pashinyan and Yaël Braun-Pivet emphasized the need to develop and expand cooperation in various fields. In particular, further deepening of ties in economy, tourism, education, science, and culture was emphasized. It was reported that the Marseille-Yerevan flight will start operating shortly, contributing to developing cooperation in tourism. Issues related to the expansion of the activities of the French University in Armenia were also discussed," the information stated.

At the guests' request, Prime Minister Pashinyan referred to the process of democratic and institutional reforms being implemented in our country and emphasized that the rich agenda of reforms is one of the priorities of the Armenian Government. "No event or problem should divert us from the path of reforms. Our response to challenges should be asymmetrical," the press service of the Prime Minister added.

Meeting with Armenian Foreign Minister

On January 14, Foreign Minister of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan received the delegation led by the President of the National Assembly of France Yaël Braun-Pivet, the Press Office of the Armenian Foreign Ministry reported.

Minister Mirzoyan welcomed the first visit to Armenia at the level of the President of the National Assembly of France, stressing that it testifies to the historical friendship based on the common values of the Armenian and French peoples and the high level of bilateral privileged relations.

Issues related to the rich cooperation agenda between Armenia and France were discussed at the meeting. The close cooperation formed at the inter-parliamentary level was commended. In this regard, the activities of friendship groups of the legislative bodies of the two countries and the interaction on multilateral platforms were particularly highlighted.

"The humanitarian situation, which has been deteriorating daily since December 12, 2022, due to Azerbaijan's blockade of the only road connecting Nagorno-Karabakh to Armenia and the rest of the world - the Lachin Corridor, and the imperative of its resolution, was discussed. Minister Mirzoyan emphasized that by its continuous actions, Azerbaijan seeks to subject the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh to ethnic cleansing," the Ministry added.

"The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia expressed his gratitude for France's principled position at different levels and formats about Azerbaijan's aggression against the sovereign territory of Armenia and the illegal blockade of the Lachin Corridor," the information stated.
