Georgia has formally its candidacy to chair the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) in 2027, Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili said in New York.

Speaking at a reception for representatives of OSCE participating States during the high-level week of the 81st UN General Assembly, Botchorishvili called for support for Georgia’s bid. “Georgia has already formally submitted its application, offering to assume the OSCE chairmanship next year. Naturally, this decision must be taken unanimously by the member countries, with all supporting the candidature,” Botchorishvili stated.

Botchorishvili noted that the process remains at an early stage and that the level of support for Georgia’s candidacy is not yet clear. Georgia's Foreign Minister emphasized that endorsement from participating States would be important for Georgia’s future work within the organisation. Botchorishvili also pointed to Georgia’s involvement in OSCE activities, including work related to security, connectivity, economic development and human rights.

“Georgia is interested in becoming the OSCE Chair in 2027 and is ready to cooperate with all participating states”, she concluded. Georgia has been an OSCE participating State since 1992. The organisation operates by consensus, meaning decisions on major issues, including the chairmanship, require agreement among all participating States.
