Georgian Authorities Surprised by Lack of Recognition from Trump Administration
On August 28, Levan Machavariani, a Member of Parliament of Georgia, stated that the Georgian authorities were surprised by the silence of US President Donald Trump’s administration regarding Georgia.
Commenting on the remarks made by former USAID head Samantha Power to Russian pranksters, Machavariani recalled her admission that the organization had spent tens of millions of dollars in Ukraine and Moldova. He emphasized that "this woman admitted that USAID financed organizations that provided support to the necessary governments in specific countries and the removal of unnecessary ones from power".
Machavariani noted that Georgian officials had raised such concerns for many years. He stressed that the main surprise for the authorities was the lack of attention from the US administration, despite Georgia’s alignment with Washington. "The only thing that surprises us against the backdrop of all this is the silence of the US administration regarding Georgia, when we absolutely agree on everything, when we were and remain Trump’s supporters on this and other issues. Against this backdrop, we expected minimal gratitude," he stated.
