Georgian Dream Confident of Victory Amidst 'Devastated' Opposition Landscape

| News, Politics, Georgia

On January 7, Shalva Papuashvili, the Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia, said that the opposition is devastated.

Papuashvili said the ruling team should confront the opposition calmly and thoughtfully. "It can be seen in their political agenda that they cannot offer new things; they cannot get out of the closed circle where they have been for years. 'Russia,' 'Saakashvili' - they cannot go beyond these topics. It seems that the upcoming elections will be devoid of content from the opposition side, which, on the other hand, creates a danger. When the opposition is weak, the risk that they will choose a radical path is high. We have been seeing this for the last year and a half. It is expected that the opposition will be aggressive, radical, and extremist," Papuashvili noted.

When asked whether the opposition would succeed in defeating the Georgian Dream with united forces, Papuashvili answered: "Ultimately, they will be defeated with united forces."

According to Papuashvili, after the collapse, the only thing left for the opposition is to radicalize the situation in Georgia. Papuashvili added that 2024 will be full of challenges, and Bidzina Ivanishvili is the person who can consolidate society. "The fact is that 2024 will be full of challenges due to the situation in the region and the complete collapse of the opposition. Based on this collapse, the only thing left for them is to radicalize the situation, whether we see their patrons inside or outside the country. This year too, there will be an attempt to undermine Georgian democracy, and state institutions, to fight against Georgia, and its reputation, which we have seen in the last two years. Therefore, now it is important to consolidate the entire nation. Bidzina Ivanishvili is the one who can consolidate the society so that we can once again celebrate the victory of Georgia and the Georgian people over our enemies," Papuashvili emphasized.

"The main strength of Bidzina Ivanishvili and the team he founded has always been the truth. We always stand for the truth, which always wins in the end. 2 years ago, we saw how an unfair decision regarding the candidate's status was used to overthrow the government. Time passed, the truth found its way and Georgia won with this truth. With this truth, we will win this year," the Georgian official stressed.

Moreover, Georgian Dream Chairman Irakli Kobakhidze noted, "Our victory in the parliamentary elections is inevitable. Today, our rating is about 60%, therefore, the opposition has no chance to succeed in these elections, they created all this by themselves."

"It will be an important year, including because there will be parliamentary elections. We are sure that the country will maintain peace and progress; we are responsible for this and will act with this responsibility next year as well," Kobakhidze added.
