Georgia's ruling party, "Georgian Dream," announced on September 1 that it will initiate the impeachment procedure against Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili. Chairman of "Georgian Dream," Irakli Kobakhidze, made the corresponding statement a few minutes ago at a press conference.

According to Kobakhidze, the impeachment procedure will begin even though its implementation needs the support of the opposition in the parliament.

“The Constitution of Georgia envisages the only effective legal mechanism for responding to its violation - this is impeachment. Yesterday and the day before yesterday, we repeatedly pointed out that despite the gross violation of the Constitution, impeachment is impossible in the current political situation. To bring the impeachment to an end requires the support of 100 parliamentarians and, accordingly, the radical opposition. Without the votes, it has no prospect of execution. Despite this, at the party's political council meeting, we decided to initiate the impeachment procedure against the President of Georgia. First of all, this is our responsibility before the Constitution of Georgia. Any turning a blind eye to gross violations of the Constitution undermines the rule of law of the legal state and the democratic constitutional In addition, the impeachment procedure will once again expose the common agenda of the radical opposition and Salome Zourabichvili, which is directed against the state interests of Georgia, including Georgia's acceptance of candidate status. In order to initiate the impeachment procedure, the signatures of the members of the parliamentary majority will be collected in the next few days, and the relevant constitutional submission will be submitted to the Constitutional Court of Georgia,” said Irakli Kobakhidze.

"Georgian Dream" appeals to the Constitutional Court regarding the violation of the Constitution by the President of Georgia, Salome Zourabichvili. According to the ruling party's chairman, the Constitutional Court will officially confirm the president's flagrant violation of the Constitution.

"First, a submission will be submitted to the Constitutional Court. The Constitutional Court will need to reason and make a conclusion. Although the legal case is very clear and clear, everything is written in black and white in the Constitution, and the conclusion of the Constitutional Court is needed within the framework of the impeachment procedure. The Constitutional Court will officially confirm, of course, the flagrant violation of the Constitution by the President of Georgia, which is very important. As for the voting itself, the coordination between Salome Zourabichvili and the radical opposition, which is directed against national interests, will be exposed again," Kobakhidze said.

The impeachment announcement comes after the President of Georgia decided to visit European countries without permission after the Georgian government first refused her a visit to Ukraine and then blocked all other international visits. Kobakhidze said that the refusal is justified both legally and politically. According to him, the president has a different position from the government regarding the acceptance of candidate status, which is the main reason.
