Georgian Human Rights Committee Chairman: "How Low Can United National Movement go?"

| News, Politics, Georgia

On January 16, responding to the internal elections in the United National Movement, Mikheil Sarjveladze, the Georgian Human Rights Committee Chairman, stated that the controversy is so apparent that the party cannot continue to exist in the same form. According to him, the party that loses the internal elections will have to leave.

"I do not think it is serious to consider that after this party holds internal elections, they will be able to maintain their positions in Georgian politics in exactly the same form or manner. The confrontation and conflict between the groups have deepened so much that it will be impossible to maintain the same atmosphere. I do not think there is even a chance. In order for this party to continue functioning in the same way, it seems that the defeated part will have to leave the party and look for new political spaces," he added.

Sarjveladze said, "It is a rhetorical question, but it is interesting - where low the National Movement can go? Unbelievable things are happening, and it is not just a clash of views, a difference of opinions, which has been used to mask the crises there for a long time. It is not a difference of opinion, we are watching a furious fight for finances."

Furthermore, Nika Melia, the Chairman of the United National Movement, stated that 7,173 voters registered in 48 hours to participate in the party elections.
