Georgian Opposition Demands Accountability in Saakashvili Case
On January 24, Levan Khabeishvili, the Chairman of the United National Movement, called for specific individuals who allegedly committed criminal offenses and participated in inhumane treatment and violence against former President Mikheil Saakashvili to be held criminally responsible.
Khabeishvili expressed concerns about the influence of what he referred to as a "Russian agency" within the government of Georgia, suggesting that this could hinder any impartial investigation. Khabeishvili highlighted the unprecedented nature of the European Union adopting a resolution designating a specific person, in this case, President Saakashvili, as a political prisoner. He also emphasized the acknowledgment by international organizations and representatives of inhumane treatment against Saakashvili.
The opposition leader insisted that those individuals implicated in criminal offenses should be brought to justice, emphasizing the need for Ukraine to take steps in this direction.
