Georgian PM Criticizes Biden Administration for Canceled Invitation to US Reception

| News, Politics, Georgia

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze commented on the cancellation of the invitation for the Head of the Government of Georgia by the US President, Joe Biden: "As for the canceled invitation to the dinner, the handshake that was planned, it was kind of a childish move. The USA is a great country, and stupidity is not something that beautifies such a great country. This is childish behavior, which is not acceptable. As for the handshake, the public should know that several dozen leaders of authoritarian states were present at this handshake or dinner. Biden invited the leaders of dozens of authoritarian states. The leaders of more than 150 states were invited there, half of which are authoritarian, formally authoritarian, and constitutionally authoritarian. Authoritarian countries are invited, and you are uninvited; let the society draw conclusions about it. If you invite the leaders of several dozen authoritarian states, host them, and cancel the invitation to Georgia, will society draw conclusions from this? After Biden's dinner was cancelled, we went together, including Davit Zalkalian, and had a Georgian dinner".

The US President hosted world leaders and high-ranking UN officials at a traditional reception in New York on September 25. As it became known to "Voice of America," Irakli Kobakhidze was also included in the list of those invited to the president's reception, but the Biden administration canceled the invitation. Along with canceling the Prime Minister's invitation, the administration also refused all meetings with the Georgian delegation. Jake Sullivan, the White House's national security advisor, also refused to meet with Kobakhidze.

The PM also touched upon the issue of the 2008 war, stating that it was Saakashvili's regime that initiated the war: “Why didn't Russia enter Georgia in 2022? Yes, we saved Georgia."

According to him, if the collective "national movement" comes to power, they will open a second front in Georgia within a week. He also added that in 2008, the Saakashvili regime started the war, which was later acknowledged by signing the European Council resolution.

When asked whether Russia is guilty of starting the war, the Prime Minister answered that it is, but also added that the Saakashvili regime started the war.

In addition, the Prime Minister answered the question regarding the new banners of the "Georgian Dream" now visible in Tbilisi and pictures war scenes from Ukraine, saying that they are not scaring the Georgian people. “It is important for the Georgian people to compare the consequences of war and the consequences of peace. We should remind the Georgian people what is the price of war, what is the price of peace. We are not scaring you; this is the reality with which they threatened us in 2022, with which they threaten us even today. We will do everything to avoid the second front of Georgia," – said Kobakhidze.
