Georgian Political Entities Convene to Discuss EU Recommendations, Seek Common Ground

| News, Politics, Georgia

On January 26, Georgian Dream MP Irakli Kadagishvili announced that invitations for a working meeting scheduled for January 29 regarding the implementation of EU recommendations had been extended to all political entities and non-governmental organizations.

The meeting, to be held in the Parliament, will see the participation of Irakli Kobakhidze, Giorgi Kakhiani, Anri Okhanashvili, Mikheil Sarjveladze, Maka Bochorishvili, Nikoloz Samkharadze, Rati Ionatamishvili, and heads of other profile committees.

Kadagishvili emphasized the importance of inclusive participation, noting that last year's working groups were open to all but were largely ignored, with only a few independent deputies engaging in the process. He encouraged opposition participation in good faith, highlighting the need for cooperation rather than political obstruction.

Kadagishvili stated, "The majority has composed the working group, and invitations have been extended to all factions, political groups, and relevant non-governmental organizations associated with the issues under discussion." He stressed the open format of the meeting and urged participants to engage constructively rather than resorting to political provocations.

Moreover, another Georgian Dream MP, Beka Odisharia, expressed optimism regarding the upcoming working meeting scheduled for January 29 to implement the 9 points of the European recommendations. He emphasized the importance of constructive engagement from the opposition, highlighting it as a crucial opportunity for Georgia's future.

Odisharia stressed that the Georgian Dream welcomes the participation of the opposition, non-governmental organizations, and all individuals genuinely concerned about Georgia's European aspirations. He reiterated that the door is open for anyone interested in joining the working group.

Regarding the opposition's potential involvement, Odisharia emphasized the need for constructive participation rather than destructive tendencies. He expressed hope that the opposition would seize the opportunity to contribute positively to the country's future. Odisharia framed the meeting as a critical juncture, suggesting it would serve as a litmus test for the opposition's commitment to Georgia's European path.

Furthermore, Paata Manjgaladze, a leader of Strategy Aghmashenebeli, affirmed that he would attend the working meeting scheduled in the Parliament on January 29 regarding the 9 points of reform. He indicated that he would represent the reform group at the meeting. He expressed readiness to engage in discussions to further Georgia's integration into Europe.

Manjgaladze emphasized the importance of action-oriented and results-driven discussions in such forums. He stated that his group would actively participate in any format that advances Georgia's European integration agenda. However, he expressed skepticism about the intentions of the ruling Georgian Dream party, suggesting that past actions did not align with the stated goals of reform and integration.

Despite his reservations, Manjgaladze underscored the importance of participating in such forums to highlight Georgia's challenges, particularly regarding unemployment and poverty. He criticized Georgian Dream's track record on reforms, particularly in judicial, electoral, and anti-corruption reforms.

Manjgaladze expressed concern about the credibility of the government's reform efforts, citing instances where criticisms of reforms were dismissed or marginalized. He highlighted the importance of addressing issues within Georgia's judicial system, especially considering the sanctions imposed on certain judicial leaders by the United States, the key strategic partner.
