Georgia’s Economy Grows 6.3% in August
Georgia’s real gross domestic product year on year in August 2026, according to preliminary figures released by the National Statistics Office on September 30. Average real GDP growth for January through August reached 7.6%.
Growth in August was driven mainly by manufacturing, information and communication, financial and insurance activities, real estate, trade, and transportation and storage. Construction, by contrast, recorded a decline.
The Economy Ministry also identified healthcare, arts, entertainment and recreation, and electricity, gas, steam and air-conditioning supply among the sectors contributing to overall growth.
Foreign trade provided an additional boost. Exports increased by 22.1% year on year to $5.4 billion during the first eight months, while domestic exports excluding re-exports rose by 63.5% to $3.3 billion.
The latest figures follow 6.9% year-on-year growth in the second quarter. Nominal GDP reached GEL 28.15 billion during that period.
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development has forecast 6.5% growth for Georgia in 2026 and 5.5% in 2027, revising both figures upward by 0.5 percentage points from its June projections. The International Monetary Fund has also projected 6.5% growth this year.
The World Bank has a more conservative outlook, forecasting 5% growth in 2026 and 5.5% in 2027. The United Nations expects 5.4% growth in 2026.
The latest data point to continued expansion across several major sectors of the Georgian economy, with export growth also contributing to overall activity.
