German Ambassador to Azerbaijan: Azerbaijan Germany's key economic partner in South Caucasus
German Ambassador Wolfgang Manig identified Azerbaijan as a key economic partner in the South Caucasus at a meeting with Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov. The ambassador emphasised the significance of high-level bilateral visits as well as the expansion of bilateral cooperation in political, economic, security, cultural, and other areas.
Furthermore, the embassy places a great importance on the operations of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the Goethe Center in Baku, which help to humanitarian connections, according to Manig.
The parties addressed the history of diplomatic relations between the two nations throughout the discussion, emphasising the importance of bilateral connections at all levels. They also discussed future collaboration possibilities.
The deputy foreign minister emphasised the necessity of continuing the political discussion between Azerbaijan and Germany, as well as the favourable economic developments. He emphasised Azerbaijan's critical role in securing Europe's energy security when speaking about Azerbaijan's ties with the European Union.
Khalafov also emphasised the relevance of the foreign and energy ministers' travels to Berlin last month in terms of discussing bilateral problems with the new German administration. He updated the audience on the post-war regional situation, Azerbaijan's perspectives on the post-conflict period, and the country's efforts to restore regional peace. He lauded Germany for its grasp of the region's changing realities.
The historical legacy of the German community's establishment in Azerbaijan in the nineteenth century had an influence on the nations' cordial ties, as well. The parties then looked through the photo book commemorating the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations.
In 2020, the Azerbaijan-German commercial turnover was $817.5 million. In the first eight months of 2021, trade between the two nations totalled $659.8 million.
Since 2012, the German-Azerbaijani Chamber of Commerce (AHK Azerbaijan) has provided information services and supported enterprises in their market and business research as the official representative of the German economy in Azerbaijan. The German-Azerbaijan Business Association (DAWF), which was created in 1999, gave birth to the AHK Azerbaijan. The AHK Azerbaijan is the most influential European economic association in Azerbaijan, with over 140 member firms (as of April 2020).
