German Ambassador to Azerbaijan: "EU should actively promote peace process in South Caucasus"
According to German Ambassador to Azerbaijan Wolfgang Manig, the EU should actively encourage the South Caucasus peace process.
"The importance of bringing Azerbaijan and Armenia closer together cannot be overstated. We are pleased by the discussions between President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan and Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan of Armenia, which were facilitated by President of the European Council Charles Michel. The EU wants to urge both parties to keep the talks going," Manig said. According to him, the EU and its member states must help build a peace process while also assisting reconstruction and demining efforts.
"I paid a visit to Nagorno-Karabakh's Shusha, and before that I was in Aghdam. Reconstruction of Azerbaijan's liberated lands is quite a long process. The top priority on the agenda is the return of internally displaced persons to their homeland," the ambassador stressed. Furthermore, he emphasised Germany's interest in promoting the region's economy. "Nagorno-Karabakh isn't supposed to be a museum. It's a region for economic and cultural events where people can live a good life," Manig concluded.
