Ilham Aliyev Engages in High-Level Diplomatic Outreach with UAE, Uzbekistan, Serbia, Iraq, and Turkmenistan Officials

Meeting with a Member of the Federal Supreme Council of the United Arab Emirates

On March 1, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received a member of the Federal Supreme Council of the United Arab Emirates, Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, the Press Office of the Azerbaijani President reported.

Speaking about the summit’s importance, the Azerbaijani leader said that Azerbaijan’s chairmanship had made significant progress in institutionalizing the Non-Aligned Movement and enhancing its role in the international relations system.

The meeting saw discussions on bilateral relations. The importance of implementing the renewable energy project by the United Arab Emirates Masdar company in Azerbaijan was underscored. The sides highlighted the development of tourism cooperation and added that the increased mutual tourist travels foster contacts among people.

Meeting with the President of Uzbekistan

On the same day, Ilham Aliyev met with Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the President of Uzbekistan.

Aliyev stated, "Most importantly, all the decisions we make are implemented on time. I think they are implemented on a larger scale than we envisaged because new ideas and projects were recently discussed at an event in Tashkent. Industrial cooperation, agriculture, and urban development continue in all directions, as indeed they should between brothers. So thank you very much for this attitude."

Shavkat Mirziyoyev said: "I think our teams, which we strictly monitor, will do everything on time. You have already mentioned the regular meetings of our teams. In December last year, we met with our Deputy Prime Minister, Khodjaev. Recently, I received Mikayil Jabbarov. We talked for a long time and discussed all the issues. It is the result of our relations that meetings are held at the regional level, and holding such a business forum speaks volumes. You have also mentioned new projects, and it might seem that we met, but we prepared very seriously for that. The projects are worth 800 million dollars. Ilham Heydar oglu, this shows that we have huge potential."

"We are preparing a big project with SOCAR in oil and gas. The project's feasibility study is already being prepared, and this process will likely develop gradually," he added.

Telephone conversation with Serbian President

On March 1, President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić called his Azerbaijani counterpart.

During the phone conversation, Aleksandar Vučić said he could not participate in the Summit-Level Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement Contact Group in Baku because of the dialogue between Serbia and Kosovo organized in Brussels, adding the minister of foreign affairs would represent Serbia in the Baku event. The Serbian president briefed the Azerbaijani leader on the progress of said dialogue.

Aleksandar Vučić stated that he placed great emphasis on the comprehensive development of Serbia-Azerbaijan relations based on mutual respect, understanding, and support.

The Azerbaijani president praised the Azerbaijan-Serbia strategic partnership dynamically developing thanks to the personal relations of the two nations' heads of state and expressed hope that this year would also be successful for bilateral ties.

Meeting with the President of Iraq

On the same day, Ilham Aliyev met with Abdullatif Jamal Rashid, the President of the Republic of Iraq.

President Ilham Aliyev recalled with pleasure his participation in the Arab League Summit in Algeria, saying Azerbaijan attaches particular importance to developing relations with Arab countries. The Azerbaijani president said there are ample opportunities for cooperation between the two nations within international organizations and mentioned OPEC+ and other formats in this respect.

The Iraqi president noted that his country is interested in deepening relations with Azerbaijan, adding that there are good opportunities for expanding cooperation even more. Abdullatif Jamal Rashid provided information about Iraq's problems and security threats. He pointed out that his country had already entered a phase of stability.

President Ilham Aliyev also invited his Iraqi counterpart to pay an official visit to Azerbaijan. Abdullatif Jamal Rashid kindly accepted the invitation and invited the Azerbaijani leader to visit Iraq.

During the conversation, the heads of state discussed cooperation in investments, energy, construction, transport, and education. They underlined the importance of expanding the bilateral economic trade balance and arranging trips for business delegations.

Meeting with the President of Turkmenistan

On March 2, Ilham Aliyev met with President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov

The Azerbaijani president underlined that Azerbaijan always paid particular attention to developing bilateral relations with Turkmenistan and hailed the political dialogue between the two countries, adding that cultural and humanitarian ties were developing.

President Ilham Aliyev underlined that very close political ties between the two countries rest on a solid foundation, saying that there are ample opportunities for cooperation between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan in energy, cotton cultivation, transport, investments, and other spheres.

The head of state added that Azerbaijan is ramping up its transport-transit capabilities, providing additional opportunities to ship Turkmenistan's goods through Azerbaijan.
