Ingushetia Claims Victory in Counter-Terrorism Effort, Six Militants Killed

| News, Security, North Caucasus

On March 2, a portion of Karabulak in Ingushetia was under a counter-terrorist operation regime, as announced by the republic's operative headquarters. Security forces have cornered terrorists in a residential building, where the militants engaged in gunfire upon being asked to surrender. FSB special forces were engaged in combat with the criminals.

Preliminary reports indicated that two militants had been killed during the operation. The gunfire has ceased, and all residents have been evacuated safely from the building, with no casualties among law enforcement or civilians.

The two militants killed in Karabulak are identified as Amirkhan Gurazhev and Adam Ozdoyev. They had been evading law enforcement for a year and were wanted at the federal level for the murder of three Interior Ministry officers. A reward had been offered for information leading to their capture. Reports suggested that the militants targeted were part of a group affiliated with ISIS, sought after for several months.

The counter-terrorist operation regime imposed on March 2 in Karabulak has been lifted following the neutralization of six individuals, all of whom were involved in terrorist activities, including attacks on law enforcement and the murder of police officers in March 2023.

Ingushetia's head, Mahmud-Ali Kalimatov, commended the absence of casualties among law enforcement and residents, attributing it to the effective actions of the FSB special forces. He directed the regional government to promptly assess and address the damage caused and provide assistance to affected residents. Temporary accommodation centers have been set up to aid those impacted by the counter-terrorist operation.
