Ingushetia Eyes Direct Flights to Georgia to Boost Tourism Ties

During the fifth meeting of the Russian-Georgian Business Council on December 5, Yuri Balashov, the Council's chairman, said Ingushetian authorities expressed their desire to appoint direct flights from Magas to any Georgia city.

"Ingushetia has great tourist potential. In turn, Georgia is interesting for the citizens of Ingushetia. The two peoples are closely linked to each other historically; they are united by spiritual values. Therefore, the appointment of flights from Magas to any city in Georgia would further simplify communication between the peoples and promote the development of tourism of the two countries," Balashov added. "The establishment of tourist ties has long been considered by the Council, but after the last visit, we were invited by the authorities of Ingushetia to improve them already in the new realities. Young people are not so familiar with common historical roots, so the meeting allowed us to revitalize youth ties. Georgian singers, it turns out, have long been popular in Ingushetia," Balashov said.

According to Balashov, Ingushetia would like to solve the issue of citizens from their region entering Georgia. "Georgian authorities are cautious about admitting young people from the Caucasus to their territory, even if they come as tourists. The Ingush have expressed a request to review this policy so that they have more opportunities to visit their relatives in Georgia and travel for medical tourism purposes," he said.

Notably, the Russian-Georgian Business Council was established under the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in February 2023, and the Council's first meeting was held then. The purpose of the Council is to create new opportunities for strengthening economic relations between Russia and Georgia.
