Irakli Garibashvili Comments on Opposition, Scandal Around Davit Kezerashvili and Davyd Arakhamia

| News, Politics, Georgia

In a press conference on May 9, Prime Minister Garibashvili said that the “bankrupt, unsuccessful, and unserious opposition” is attempting to discredit the global scam network of the so-called call centers exposed by the BBC - confirming that the former Defense Minister Davit Kezerashvili and his "gang of swindlers" robbed European pensioners. "One billion dollars have been stolen. And this man still has aspirations, as do the opposition groups he finances, aspirations to rule. This is disturbing," the Prime Minister remarked, adding that the people should have the answers to their inquiries. "I think the European investigating agencies will put a stop to this matter. You are aware that over the last two years, we have actively cooperated with the German inquiry. Together, we looked at a variety of facts, and in the end, this truth emerged," he continued.

The opposition group Girchi - More Freedom's leader Zurab Japaridze was also the subject of Garibashvili's criticism, who said that the party leader with 1% support continues to live in a huge utopia and poisons the public, the youth, and like-minded people. "These ineffective, broke, and anti-national forces with under 1% backing will not organize anything in our nation. If these neo-fascist and ultra-radical forces had been in power, we would not have had our country anymore," Garibashvili said. He added that the Georgians are wise, see well what is happening, and have preserved the most important thing - peace.

When asked about the remarks made by Davyd Arakhamia, the head of Ukraine's "Servant of the People" faction, regarding the return of the Ukrainian Ambassador to Georgia and potential sanctions against some Georgian citizens, Prime Minister Garibashvili said he would not make serious comments on the statements of a certain nonentity. "Let Mr. Arakhamia mind his own business," he added. According to the Prime Minister, Arakhamia's comments were yet another proof that he and Georgian extremist, radical opposition have been in full coordination with the sole purpose of making something happen here, a coup, a violent change of government to bring the fascist, neo-fascist regime to rule the country.
