On December 26, prospects of opening a regular flight between Chechnya and Iran were discussed by Muslim Khuchiev, the Chairman of the Government of the Chechen Federal Republic, Alvi Shakhgiriev, the General Director of Grozny (Northern) Airport, with representatives of Iranian airline Mahan Air.

"This is undoubtedly an important step in strengthening trade, economic, and cultural ties between our countries and developing the tourism sector. Grozny Airport is one of the most developing transportation hubs in the North Caucasus. At present, the construction and reconstruction project of the Grozny (Northern) airport, named after A.A. Kadyrov, is being actively implemented in the Chechen [Federal] Republic. This will make it possible to increase passenger traffic to 1.5 million people a year and accept all types of aircraft," Khuchiev noted.

Khuchiev added that the federal republic's leadership is expanding the air route geography by opening new regular interregional and international flights. "Cooperation between the Chechen Republic and Iran, in addition to the establishment of regular air service, involves, among other things, the creation of a joint airline to reduce the cost of air transportation and an aviation industry cluster for the aviation industry of Russia and Iran," he said.
