Iran Building Road to Connect Azerbaijan and Nakhichevan, Bypassing Armenia

Iran is implementing a project to establish land communication between the main part of Azerbaijan and its Nakhichevan exclave, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian announced in an interview with AzTV. Pezeshkian stated that the construction of the road is progressing rapidly and has been fully agreed upon, ensuring safe and comfortable travel between Azerbaijan and Nakhichevan. He emphasized Iran’s support for the project, describing Iran as a “second homeland” for Azerbaijanis. The new route will not only connect Azerbaijan and Nakhichevan but also facilitate links between Azerbaijan and Iranian regions such as Tabriz, Ardabil, and Western Azerbaijan. Pezeshkian highlighted that the project aims to enhance safe communication and regional connectivity. The corridor will bypass Armenia, offering Azerbaijan an alternative land route to Nakhichevan through Iranian territory.
