Israeli and Iranian Heads Call Aliyev After Deadly Attack on Azerbaijani Embassy in Tehran
Conversation with President of the State of Israel Isaac Herzog
On January 28, Isaac Herzog, the President of Israel, called Ilham Aliyev, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Press Office of the Azerbaijani President reported. During the telephone conversation, President Isaac Herzog condemned the terrorist act committed against the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Tehran.
The Israeli President offered his condolence over the murder of the head of the Embassy’s security service Orkhan Asgarov to President Ilham Aliyev, relatives of the killed, and the people of Azerbaijan, and wished a swift recovery to the wounded.
Ilham Aliyev underlined that the Embassy’s other security officer was courageous and quick enough to disarm the terrorist with his bare hands. The Azerbaijani President did not rule out that other Embassy officers and their families living in the Embassy's staff apartments could have become the targets too, unless the terrorist armed with a rifle and many magazines had been disarmed.
The President of Azerbaijan expressed condolence over the terrorist act committed in Israel to President Isaac Herzog and the families of the killed and wished speedy recovery to the injured.
President Ilham Aliyev noted that Azerbaijan, a country suffering from terrorism, condemns all forms and manifestations of terrorism irrespective of any motives.
Conversation with the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Sayyid Ebrahim Raisi
On the same day, the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Sayyid Ebrahim Raisi called Ilham Aliyev.
During the telephone conversation, President Sayyid Ebrahim Raisi expressed his condolences to President Ilham Aliyev and the family of Orkhan Asgarov, the deceased head of the security service of the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Tehran, and wished those injured a speedy recovery.
President Ilham Aliyev expressed his strong condemnation of the terrorist act committed against the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Tehran and voiced his hope that this violent act of terror would be thoroughly investigated and the criminals would be punished with the utmost rigor of the law. President Ilham Aliyev also emphasized the importance of investigating transparently.
The head of state noted that another security guard of the Embassy had taken on the terrorist with bare hands and managed to disarm him acting agilely.
President Ilham Aliyev said that if the terrorist had not been disarmed, he would have targeted other employees of the Embassy and their family members living in the apartment section of the Embassy compound.
