Jeyhun Bayramov comments on Pashinyan's Speech at UN
Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov said Azerbaijan would continue to suppress any threats to its sovereignty and territorial integrity. "Two days ago, we listened [at the meeting of the UN General Assembly] to the speech of the Prime Minister of Armenia. Unfortunately, it has become proof that the Armenian side intends to continue confrontation instead of normalization [of relations with Azerbaijan]. We believe that our region has seen enough conflict, destruction, and suffering. It is time for the two nations to engage in post-conflict normalization fully so we can finally turn the tragic page of our history and start building a better future for our children. The Azerbaijani side is committed to its obligations," Bayramov said, speaking at the UN General Assembly.
He expressed hope that the current leadership of Armenia does not follow the path of its predecessors, deliberately once again closing the window of opportunity for peace and security in the region. At the same time, he stressed that Azerbaijan is determined to repel further any threats to its sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the security of its citizens and called on Armenia to refrain from further aggravation of the situation.
Bayramov added that based on the agreement reached at the fourth meeting of the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia held in Brussels on August 31, 2022, through the mediation of the head of the European Council, Baku confirmed its readiness to start practical work on a peace treaty with Yerevan without any delay. "Immediately after the meeting, we offered Armenia a specific date and place for holding such negotiations," he noted. The Minister stressed Baku's commitment to peace and stability in the region. "Azerbaijan is committed to regional peace, stability, and development. Establishing good neighborly relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan is the key to building a secure, stable, and prosperous South Caucasus through full-fledged regional normalization," Bayramov said.
