Jeyhun Bayramov Meets Sergey Lavrov in Moscow

On December 5, Jeyhun Bayramov, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, made a working visit to Russia, the Press Office of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry reported.

On the same day, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov held a joint meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Sergey Lavrov, with a delegation.

At the meeting, the current issues of the cooperation agenda between Azerbaijan and Russia, cooperation in economy, education, transport, and other bilateral and regional fields, and issues of normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, implementation of tripartite statements were discussed.

"Minister Jeyhun Bayramov expressed satisfaction with the high-level dialogue and close contact between Azerbaijan and Russia. The Minister said that the 30th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between the two countries is being celebrated this year, and various events are being held. These events will contribute to bilateral relations," the report added. Minister Jeyhun Bayramov also informed the other party about the peace agenda and the steps Azerbaijan took in the post-conflict period. Armenia's attempts to slow down the process, its failure to fulfill its obligations under the Tripartite Statement, especially the 4th and 9th points, its failure to withdraw its forces from our territories entirely, and its obstruction of the opening of all communications have drawn attention. Minister Jeyhun Bayramov spoke about the danger of landmines in the liberated areas and stressed that the discovery of mines manufactured in Armenia in 2021 in the territories of Azerbaijan is a serious violation of its obligations by Armenia and harms the peace process. In addition, the issue of illegal exploitation of our natural resources in our territories, where the Russian peacekeeping contingent is temporarily stationed, was a topic of discussion," the Ministry added.

After the meeting, a joint press conference of the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Russia was held.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that particular importance is attached to the signing of the Declaration on the mutual activity of allies, which cemented new qualities of communication between Russia and Azerbaijan. According to Lavrov, one of the main topics of the meeting is related to the implementation of the tripartite agreements reached between the leaders of Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Russia on November 9, 2020, January 11, and November 26, 2021, and on October 31 this year in Sochi. "We are interested in unblocking transport links, delimiting borders, concluding a peace agreement, and generally strengthening trust measures, including developing relations between public structures, political scientists, and parliamentarians. Cooperation in the region, the Caspian issue, the UN, OSCE, and CIS, which are experiencing difficult times, are always on our agenda. It also includes contacts and other processes taking place in our common space," the Russian Foreign Minister noted.

After a comprehensive meeting, a political consultation plan for 2023-2024 was signed between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan and Russia.
